1. Purpose
Equra College London (“Equra”) is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) as essential to educational quality, student success, and ethical practice. Equra aims to create a learning and working environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and where barriers to participation and achievement are actively removed.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all students, applicants (where relevant), staff, contractors, volunteers, visitors, guest speakers and partner-delivered learning environments connected to Equra, including on-site, online and off-site activities.
3. Commitments
Equra commits to:
- Treating people fairly and with respect;
- Preventing unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
- Promoting equality of opportunity and inclusive participation;
- Providing reasonable adjustments and accessible learning environments;
- Using inclusive teaching, assessment and student support practices;
- Maintaining clear reporting routes and fair handling of concerns;
- Monitoring themes and improving practice continuously.
4. Equality and unacceptable conduct
Equra does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying, hate incidents, sexual harassment, or victimisation. Equra expects respectful conduct and will act where concerns are reported or identified.
5. Protected characteristics and inclusion
Equra recognises protection and dignity in relation to:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race (including nationality, ethnic or national origins)
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
Equra also promotes inclusive practice for students from non-traditional educational backgrounds, students with caring responsibilities, and students experiencing socio-economic or other barriers.
6. Reasonable adjustments and accessibility
Equra will provide reasonable adjustments for students and staff where required to ensure fair access to learning, assessment and services. Adjustments may include accessible formats, assistive technology support, alternative communication formats, and proportionate adjustments to assessment arrangements where academically appropriate.
7. Inclusive teaching and learning
Equra will promote inclusion by:
- Using clear learning outcomes and transparent assessment criteria;
- Designing learning resources that are accessible and well-structured;
- Using varied teaching approaches to support different learners;
- Promoting respectful discussion and professional conduct in learning environments;
- Ensuring communications and student services are accessible.
8. Expectations for the Equra community
All students and staff are expected to:
- Treat others with dignity, courtesy and professionalism;
- Respect differences and avoid stereotyping or exclusionary behaviour;
- Raise concerns appropriately and in good faith;
- Contribute to a safe learning environment.
9. Raising concerns
Equra encourages early reporting of EDI-related concerns. Equra will confirm the correct route depending on the issue, including routes covering:
- Bullying, harassment, hate incidents and sexual harassment;
- Safeguarding and welfare concerns;
- Student conduct matters; and
- Service dissatisfaction and complaints.
10. Support and non-retaliation
Equra may offer supportive measures where appropriate. Equra will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith or participates in a process.
11. Confidentiality and data protection
Equra will handle EDI-related information confidentially on a need-to-know basis and in line with its Privacy Notice and data protection principles. Information may be shared where necessary to manage safety risks or comply with legal duties.
12. Training and continuous improvement
Equra will provide relevant induction/training, communicate expectations clearly, and monitor themes to improve EDI practice and inclusive learning.
13. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner where required.
